OCTOPUS (absolutely adorable)
BODY:
- ring of 3
- 7 slip stitches into ring
- increase 1 for every 2nd slip stitch (continue using slip stitches until told otherwise)
- increase 1 stitch for every 2nd
- increase 1 stitch for every 3rd
- increase 1 stitch for every 5th
- make a lap with no increase (keep the same number of stitches)
- a lap with no increase
- a lap with no increase
- increase 1 stitch for every 10th
- increase 1 stitch for every 5th
- increase 1 stitch for every 7th
- increase 1 stitch for every 10th
- 7 consecutive laps with no increase, keep the same number of stitches
- decrease 1 stitch for every 10th (skip every 10th stitch...)
- 4 consecutive laps with no decrease, keep the same number of stitches
- decrease 1 stitch for every 10th
- lap with no change in number of stitches
- decrease 1 stitch for every 10th
- 5 consecutive laps, same number of stitches
- decrease 1 stitch for every 10th
- 3 consecutive laps, no change in number of stitches
- decrease 1 stitch for every 7th
- lap with no change in number of stitches
- lap with no change in number of stitches
- Two consecutive rounds of double stitches, with no change in number of stitches.
At this point, you should have 48 stitches around the perimeter in total. If you have anything other than that, do an extra lap of slip stitches and either increase or reduce stitches to get that number.
BOTTOM FLAP (his bum)
- ring of 3
- 7 slip stitches around the ring
- increase 1 stitch for every pre-existing stitch (... thereby doubling your number of stitches at this point)
- double your number of stitches again, by increasing 1 stitch for every existing stitch
- increase 1 stitch for every 5th
- double stitch lap, no increase, same number of stitches
- double stitches, increase 1 for every 3rd
- double stitches, increase 1 for every 15th
Attach the bottom flap to the body using regular slip stitches. Both the bottom flap and the body should have the same number of stitches around the perimeter so a 1 to 1 slip stitch should do the job. Put in stuffing as you go.
TENTACLES
- Fasten thread to the seam between body and bottom flap.
- Do 100 regular stitches in the air.
- Place 3 triple stitches into every stitch, thereby working your way back towards the body.
- Skip 2 stitches to the side from where you attached the thread in the beginning, and pull through the edge of your thread now. Tie the two edges together. Pull in the tails.
FLIPPERS
- 18 slip stitches along the side of the body
- turn, go back and forth reducing 1 stitch for every side of the flipper
- Count: 1 row of 18 along the body, 3 rows back and forth with reduction.
- For the last row, go all the way across the flipper, making slip stitches over the previous row.
- Tie the end together and pull them in.
Adjustment:
To make the tentacles more stable, do a lap of slip stitches around the "waist" of the octopus, as shown.
