SIMPLE ROSE
This pattern is one for a simple rose, which you can either have on it's own or to decorate another project. The beauty of it is that you can be sloppy, make mistakes and modify the pattern without making the rose look bad. Below are the simple guidelines for the pattern...
This is what one petal of your rose is supposed to look like. You will start with a 'base' of a simple chain of stitches. For the rose in the picture i made 48 stitches in the chain, which resulted in a total of 8 petals. You do the math- 7 links in the chain will leave you with one petal.
After you've made the links, you will do a row of simple shell stitch. (Shell: 5 separate double stitches that attach to one stitch of the base.)
As you turn around, you will keep following the shell but in it's middle stitch, you will place three double stitches instead of just one, this will give the petals the right shape.
For the third row, you will follow the same concept but I personally recommend following the shell on half of the petals with double stitches, and half with regular ones (as indicated with the yarn color change in the picture below).
Please do notice the blue lines on the pattern, this is where you will attach the edges of your shell. Don't worry about pulling the yarn extra tight, you want the creases between the petals to be as deep as possible.
This pattern is super open to experimenting with the number of petals, loads of different colors, the height of the stitches...
To put the rose together, roll up your little strip of petals and put a large knitting needle through it to keep it in place. Then, take simple large stitches going from the centre of the swirl outward. Make sure to get all the layers of the roll. It doesn't matter if it's a bit sloppy, as long as it holds.
Best of luck and do comment any questions you may have. Also feel free to comment pictures of your version of this pattern!
