Body: 
1. ring of 3
2. 8 slip stitches (sl st) into ring
3. 2 double crochet (dc) into 1, followed by a cluster of 5 (cl of 5) slips into the next stitch, repeat
4. 2dc in 1, 2dc in 1, cl of 5, repeat (note: first set, skip first 2dc in 1)
5. dc, 2dc in 1, cl of 5, repeat 
6. dc, 2dc in 1, cl of 5, repeat 
7. dc, cl of 5, repeat
change color 
8. 3dc, cl of 5, repeat 
9. 5dc, cl of 5, repeat 
10. 7dc, cl of 5, repeat 
change color 
11. dc, reduce every 10th 
12. cl of 3 (between the dc), reduce every 5th 
13. cl of 3, reduce every 3rd 
14. cl of 3, reduce every 2nd 
15. sl st 
16. sl st, reduce every 2nd 
17. sl st, reduce every 2nd 
18. pull closed the hole remaining, place an extra sl st if needed 

Eye sockets:

Mouth:

Fins/flippers/tail: 
1. ring 5 
2. 1 dc, 1 chain stitch (ch), repeat 
3. (dc, ch, dc)in 1, repeat (skip for flippers) 
change color 
4. sl st between dc, 3ch, repeat (do an extra round for tail) 
5. Fon fins: fold in half and stitch, for tail: fold in 4 and stitch, for flippers: fold in half unevenly and stitch. 

NOTES: 
  • put in stuffing as you go 
  • remember to pull the stitches tight to not leave any holes
  • feel free to embroider the underbelly for a more realistic effect 
  • fin- on top of the back, tail- in the back, flippers- on the side

Start with a ring of 4 stitches.  Round 1: 8 stitches. (Throw the yarn over the stitches in the ring, and pull it through like a regular stitch. Round 2:  two stitches go into each of the previous stitches, thereby doubling your number of stitches. Round 3: first one stitch, then two stitches into the same previous stitch. Basically, you do two stitches for every 2nd stitch of the previous round. Round 4:  one stitch, one stitch, two stitches into the same previous stitch. So, two regular stitches and then two stitches into every 3rd previous stitch. Continue doing two stitches for every 3rd stitch until you reach round 7.  Please note that if you want to make a significantly larger basket, you can keep going with more rounds before moving onto the next step.
