  1. ch 45 
  2. sl st down whole row
    • 10 rows of sl st 
  3. dc 1 to 1 down entire row, at the end of row, 2 sl st into last dc, then 5 sl st into short side of the rectangle, ch 3, continue with row of dc:s on the other side of the rectangle, at the end of row, 2 sl st into last dc, then 5 sl st into short side of the rectangle, attach to 1st stitch of lap with a slip 
  4. sl st around the whole perimeter, 1 to 1, corners: 2 sl st per 1 st of previous row, for the 3 stitches on the corners (doesn't have to be exact) 
  5. sl st 1 to 1 around the whole perimeter
  6. place the mat flat, have the yarn underneath it and your hook on top, plunge the hook into the work and bring up the thread from underneath, slip stitch two laps this way, going along the creases of the previous laps 
  7. slip stitch and bring the tread to the edge of the work again, make a regular sl st, (ch 3, dc 2) cluster, ch 2, dc 3 cluster, ch 2... around the perimeter, attach together ch to 1st cluster with sl st
  8. sl st between clusters, ch 2, sl st between clusters... down the sides; sl st between clusters, ch 5, sl st between next set of clusters, ch 5, sl st into between next set
  9. 3 sl st into each ch, corners: 7 sl st into the longer ch:s
  10. sl st 1 to 1 around the perimeter 
  11. sl st, ch of 3, attach down with sl st, but skip one st from previous row. Therefore, you will have chains of 3 around the whole perimeter, with 1 free previous stitch underneath each 
    • repeat for 3 laps 
  12. sl st around whole perimeter, 2 sl st per ch, corners: the 2 ch on the corners= 3 sl st per ch 
  13. sl st, ch 4, sl st into 2nd stitch and continue all the way down, attach down with sl st into next st (of previous row), sl st into next st, ch 4, sl st into 2nd stitch and continue all the way down, attach down with sl st into next st... continue around whole perimeter
